2022 Dietitians NZ Hybrid Conference – Te Kākano – The Seed

Poipoia te kākano, kia puawai – Nuture the seed and it will blossom

We invite you to join us at the 2022 Dietitians NZ Hybrid Conference being held on 31st August – 1st September 2022 at the Christchurch Town Hall and on our Virtual Events Platform.

Our 2022 theme, Te Kākano – The Seed’ follows on from our 2021 theme ‘Te Anga Hou – Changing of the seasons’ where we focussed on the changing health care landscape and Dietitians NZ commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Te Kākano – The Seed, is a metaphor for the growth of Dietitians NZ and Te Kahui Manukura o Kai Ora, the generation of new ideas, innovation and the new health system, as well as how we as dietitians nurture the seed inside whānau and the people we work with so they can flourish. It also acknowledges how the kākano carries the whakapapa of generations gone before and teaches us to utilise the past to inform our journey forward.

The Whakatauki – Poipoia te kākano, kia puawai: Nuture the seed and it will blossom, recognises not all seeds get the same start, some are put into fertile soil, some harder ground; some get adequate water, and some do not. Just like with seeds, not all people enjoy the same start to life or opportunity to grow and flourish, and so equity (access and outcomes) for all New Zealanders regardless of who they are or where they live will continue to be an integral concept to our conference in 2022.

The conference will inspire delegates and exhibitors with new content and learning opportunities as well as ample opportunity to network among their peers. With an event line-up that includes keynote speakers Dr. Michelle Dickinson AKA Nanogirl, NZ Local Hero of the Year Dave Letele, original research, an engaging debate and workshop style learning, the conference is shaping up to be our best yet!
